Do I have the right insurance to replace my roof?

July 31, 2018
Author: Liz Giannetti

Roofs in Ohio take a beating. From spring storms, to ice dams in the dead of winter, to hurricanes (anyone remember when the tail end of Hurricane Ike ripped through on September 14, 2008?), many of our customers have experienced an issue with their roof due to weather.

Roofs are expensive, and not all roof coverage is the same. Wind and hail storms of the past have pushed some insurance companies to try to limit their exposure to roof claims by making changes to coverage. The good news is the excellent carriers that Titan Insurance Services represents have not made these coverage changes, giving you true replacement cost coverage without making you fork out a huge deductible.

Many carriers are going to percentage (one percent or higher) for wind and hail claims. If your house is worth $400,000, then your one percent deductible is a whopping $4,000! Insurance companies are going to actual cash value on roof claims, depreciation applied to loss, so you can’t replace your roof with the insurance check alone and you’re forced to come out of pocket to make up the difference!

At Titan Insurance Services, our deductibles range from $500 to $1,500 with replacement cost coverage, which we include on every policy we quote.

Always call us in the office if you feel you have roof damage, because we can advise you on the right next steps. Many times you’ll get door-to-door roofers trying to get you to sign paperwork so they can open the claim on your behalf, but that may not be in your best interest, so please call us in the office first.

And the next time roofs (or insurance in general) comes up with your friends, family or co-workers, let them know how Titan Insurance Services is always looking out for your best interest. We’d love to give them a quote and send you a $50 gift card if they decide to become a Titan customer!
